BOSTON – Hillel Council of New England (HCNE) announced that it has begun a new partnership with Combined Jewish Philanthropies. HCNE is CJP’s operating partner for Boston Onward Israel, the flagship professional internship program in Israel for Boston area college students.
Funded through CJP’s donors, together with leading North American Foundations and the Government of Israel through Masa Israel Journey, HCNE will leverage its experience in providing meaningful program offerings for college-age young adults in the Greater Boston area to combine with CJP’s longstanding commitment to Israel engagement to bring the Onward Israel internship program to more students at colleges and universities across Greater Boston and New England.
Boston is a founding program partner, and since the program’s inception in 2012, Boston’s delegation to Onward Israel sent over 130 participants annually to serve in professional internships in Israel’s three largest cities of Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and Haifa.
Boston’s Onward Israel is the largest community delegation in North America. Participation in the program has encouraged a commitment from the network of 945 Boston Onward Israel alumni who continue to make significant impact in the Jewish community.
“We are thrilled to add the Onward Israel program as part of our Israel engagement strategy,” remarked Miriam Blue, executive director of Hillel Council of New England. “This is a natural extension of our mission to connect Jewish students on campuses across New England to each other and to the local and global Jewish community. We are excited to expand our reach and bring this high-impact Israel experience to more students.”
Applications for the Onward Israel program open in November and the internship program is held each June-August.
