Temple Sinai, SPUR and JCC Preschool team up on Tu b’Shvat

Children planting seeds for Tu b’Shvat.

Members of Temple Sinai, SPUR, and the  JCCNS Pre-School planted seeds together for Tu b’Shvat at Temple Sinai on Feb. 6.

The children planted pea, romaine lettuce and parsley seeds in transparent pots. The parsley and romaine lettuce will be harvested from the pots in time to use for family Passover seders, and the peas will be transplanted into the SPUR Community Roots Garden at Temple Sinai in the spring. In addition to the planting, four preschool classes rotated among four activities: storytelling, songs, and arts and crafts related to Tu b’Shvat.

This event is part of a partnership among these three organizations, established in 2022, whose purpose is to:

• provide organically grown vegetables from the SPUR Community Roots Garden at Temple Sinai for area food pantries to help combat food insecurity in our community;

• teach the children about where their food comes from, organic gardening and volunteering to help their neighbors in need.
