Betty (Silverman) Schrater

Betty (Silverman) Schrater, 97, of Swampscott, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 17, 2024.

Beloved wife of the late Harry Schrater. Loving mother to Robert Schrater and his wife Trudy, Evelyn White and her late husband Wayne, and Matthew Schrater and his wife Stephanie. She was an adoring, devoted “Nana” to several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty was born to the late Isaac and Ida Silverman.

Born on Jan. 4, 1927, Betty grew up in Revere and worked in her parents grocery store on Shirley Ave. She was a member of Hadassah and served as president of Temple Sinai Sisterhood. She volunteered for the Red Cross blood drive for many years. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, walking, swimming, especially in the ocean at the beach. She was a regular at the JCC. She taught softball. Most of all she cherished and loved time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also traveled a lot with her husband and their favorite place was Aruba.

A funeral service for Betty was held on June 25 at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin St., Salem, with interment following at Sudlikov Cemetery, 232 Fuller St., Everett.
