To think it is possible that this will be the last year Epstein Hillel School will remain open is unimaginable. A Jewish day school that has existed on the North Shore for over 70 years might actually be forced to close its doors.

As a center for Jewish life along with our synagogues and the JCCs, Hillel has served the community through four generations of Jewish families living north of Boston. It is impossible to believe that our North Shore Jewish community cannot, or will not, sustain this important institution.

With the world as it is and increased antisemitic incidents, having a Jewish day school on the North Shore as an option for Jewish families is more important than ever. Hillel has graduated hundreds of kids, many of whom have become leaders in their own Jewish communities and nationally.

In the last issue of the Journal, it was reported that Epstein Hillel School has raised $1 million in the emergency campaign, “Step Up to the Moment.” This is true and it ensures that the school will remain open for this school year.

The school is now looking to the future, and is tasked with raising an additional $2 million to even consider opening up in September 2026. These funds would give the school the runway to open as a reimagined pre-K through Grade 5 school.
