Award-winning broadcast journalist Kimberly Bookman signed off for the final time at WHDH-TV 7News earlier this month after more than 12 years as a TV reporter.
“I’m proud of my contributions to 7News,” Bookman said in an email. “After 12 years of dedication, I’ve chosen to move on.”

Bookman wrote on Facebook Aug. 2 this was the longest amount of time she has ever stayed at any job. Her final sign-off was Aug. 4.

Bookman shared her announcement on social media with a video montage featuring her colleagues set to David Bowie’s “Changes.”

In April, in the lead-up to her talk at Hadassah Northern New England’s annual donor brunch, the Needham native shared the story of her distinguished 26-year career with the Journal.

She was a young Jewish woman breaking into the TV news business in Elmira, New York, where there were few Jews, when she used her door-knocking skills to locate a brisket for the High Holidays while befriending a Jewish family in the process. She moved on to markets in South Carolina and Baltimore and returned to Boston around 2006, working at various stations, including WCVB-TV in her hometown, before becoming a TV reporter at WHDH-TV in 2014.

She was raised in a household where her parents practiced Judaism and were heavily involved in Temple Beth Shalom in Needham. “This is my choice,” she wrote on Facebook. “I believe the best stories are the ones that keep unfolding. So, stay tuned … the next chapter is just beginning!”
