Students at Maimonides School earned seven of the 15 top awards worldwide in the Hebrew Language Olympiad organized by Tel Aviv University, competing against more than 9,000 students from around the globe. Among the competition’s highest honors, Maimonides students captured three of the five first-place awards, one of the five second-place awards, and three of the five third-place awards.

Under the leadership of Hebrew Department Chair Barak Cerf, Maimonides has been reimagining Hebrew instruction, viewing it not merely as language acquisition but as a gateway to Jewish texts, Israeli culture, and a deeper sense of global Jewish identity.

The school’s approach emphasizes meaningful engagement with Hebrew as a living language and a core element of Jewish life. Students are challenged to think critically, communicate fluently, and connect their learning to the wider Jewish world.
